Kapa`a man arrested following Friday night's traffic crash in Waipouli
WAIPOULI — Kaua`i police arrested a Kapa`a man following a two -car crash that
occurred on Kuhio Highway in Waipouli on Friday night.
Shortly after 9 p.m., a southbound Toyota Corolla was attempting to make a left turn
from Kuhio Highway onto Papaloa Road, when it failed to negotiate timing of the turn and
collided with an oncoming Toyota pickup truck.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 56-year-old Kapa`a man, sustained non -life threatening
injuries and was transported by medics to Wilcox Hospital for treatment. The truck's passenger,
a 53-year-old Kapa`a woman, sustained serious injuries and was medevaced to Queen's
Hospital where she currently remains.
The driver of the Corolla, identified as 26-year-old Jared Weinstock of Kapa`a, did not
report any injuries.
As a result of the on -scene investigation, police arrested Weinstock for suspicion of
Negligent Injury. He has since been released pending investigation.
Kauai police closed Kuhio Highway in both directions Friday night while investigators
from the Traffic Safety Section conducted an on -scene investigation. During the closure,
motorists were diverted northbound through the Kapaa Bypass Road and southbound through
Coconut Marketplace and onto Papaloa Road. The highway was reopened at approximately
12:40 a.m. Saturday.
The investigation remains ongoing.
