Two -vehicle crash closes Maluhia Road on Friday
KOLOA — A portion of Maluhia Road near the Tree Tunnel in Koloa was closed in both
directions for several hours Friday, following a two -vehicle crash that resulted in various injuries.
Two people suffered life -threatening injuries, three people sustained non -life -threatening
injuries, and another person was uninjured.
According to a preliminary investigation, five occupants from Canada was heading
northbound in a Nissan SUV on Maluhia Road shortly before 3 p.m., and apparently crossed the
center line and struck a southbound tractor trailer in a head-on collision.
Kauai Police closed Maluhia Road for approximately five -and -a -half hours while officials
conducted an on -scene investigation and worked to clear the road. Additional time was needed
in order to tow the tractor trailer.
Two occupants from Canada who suffered life -threatening injuries were medivaced to
Queens Hospital, two other occupants from Canada were admitted to Wilcox Hospital, and the
fifth occupant in the Nissan SUV was treated and released. The driver of the tractor trailer was
uninjured.
The investigation of the crash remains ongoing.
