Kilauea traffic crash results in fatality
KILAUEA — Police have confirmed that a 28-year-old Kilauea man died as a result of an
apparent head-on traffic crash that occurred Saturday night on Kuhio Highway, in the vicinity of
the Kahili Makai Street junction in Kilauea.
The man's identity has not yet been released.
A preliminary investigation reveals that shortly before 9 p.m., a white Dodge pickup truck
was heading south on Kuhio Highway when it apparently crossed the centerline and struck an
oncoming black Ford Ranger truck.
The driver of the Ford was presumed dead at the scene.
The driver of the Dodge, a 22-year-old Kilauea man, sustained non -life threatening
injuries and was transported by ambulance to Wilcox Hospital where he was treated and has
since been released.
Kuhio Highway was closed in both directions for approximately five hours to allow KPD's
Traffic Safety Section to conduct an on -scene investigation.
The investigation of the crash remains ongoing.
Police are asking anyone who may have seen the collision or may have any information
on the crash to contact Lieutenant James Miller at 241-1611. Those wishing to remain
