Public invited to submit nominations for the 2019 Outstanding Male and
Female Older Americans Recognition
Mayor Derek S. K. Kawakami and the Agency on Elderly Affairs (AEA) invites the public
to submit nominations for the 2019 Outstanding Male and Female Older Americans Recognition.
"Each year during the month of May, we pay tribute to older adults 65 years and older who
have made exceptional contributions to their community through service and/or special projects,"
said Kealoha Takahashi, Executive for the Agency of Elderly Affairs.
This year's Older Americans Month theme is "Contribute, Connect, Create." Contribute
recognizes that older adults play a key role in the vitality of neighborhoods, networks, and lives.
The theme encourages older adults to connect with friends, family, and services that support
participation; create by engaging in activities that promote learning, health, and personal
enrichment; and contribute time, talent, and life experience to benefit others.
Nomination forms are available at the Agency on Elderly Affairs, Monday to Friday, from
8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The AEA is located at the L-ihu`e Civic Center, Pi`ikoi Building, Suite 330.
The deadline to submit nominations is March 8, 2019, by close of business.
All nominees will be honored at a recognition ceremony on May 3, 2019.
For more information, please call the AEA at 241-4470.
