Koloa man dies near waters off Hanapepe Bay
HANAPEPE — A Koloa man was discovered unresponsive in waters near the shoreline
of Hanapepe Bay, fronting the Port Allen airstrip, in Hanapepe on Sunday morning.
He has been identified as Jack Odo, age 60.
According to police, bystanders were walking along the shoreline around 9 a.m. when
they observed a man's body face down in the water. They pulled the man to shore, where they
began administering CPR.
Lifeguards and medics arrived to the scene and continued the effort, but were unable to
resuscitate the man. He was transported to Wilcox Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to a preliminary investigation, Odo was at Salt Pond after camping there
overnight and was last seen picking opihi on the rocks.
An autopsy is pending; however, foul play is not suspected in the cause of his death.
