OMNO — A family has been displaced after a fire destroyed their Oma`o home on
Tuesday afternoon.
The family was not present at the time and no injuries were reported.
Kaumuali`i Highway, from Oma`o Road to Koloa Road, was closed from approximately
3:20 to 6:20 p.m. as firefighters responded to the fire, according to Kauai Police Department
dispatch.
Kalaheo firefighters were dispatched to the scene at approximately 3 p.m. and found a
two-story dwelling fully engulfed in flames.
In total, nine units and 22 personnel from the Kalaheo, Hanapepe, and LIIu`e fire
stations along with the on -duty Battalion Chief, the KFD Prevention Bureau, and the Kauai
Police Department responded to the incident.
The fire was deemed under control at approximately 3:50 p.m., fully extinguished at 6:30
p.m., and the scene was cleared by fire officials shortly before 7:40 p.m.
