Pedestrian in critical condition following Sunday night's crash
KIPU — A male pedestrian is in critical condition after he was struck by a vehicle while
crossing Kaumuali`i Highway in Mpu Sunday night.
According to police, a Honda Fit was heading west on Kaumuali`i Highway shortly before
8 p.m., when it struck the pedestrian while he was crossing the highway near mile marker 4.
There are no crosswalks in this area of the highway.
The pedestrian, age 72, with no known address, was transported to Wilcox Hospital with
serious injuries. He currently remains at the hospital in critical condition.
The male driver of the Honda, age 61, of Kaumakani, and his female passenger were
transported to Wilcox Hospital with non -life threatening injuries. They have since been treated
and released.
Police closed Kaumuali`i Highway in both directions for nearly four hours, while officers
with KPD's Traffic Safety Section conducted an on -scene investigation.
The investigation remains ongoing.
