DAHILIG, MANAGING DIRECTOR C os News Release For Immediate Release: April 30, 2019 KAUA`I FIRE DEPARTMENT KILIPAKI VAUGHAN, DEPUTY CHIEF Tel (808) 241-4980 Fax (808) 241-6508 Registration starts May 1 for Keiki and Junior Lifeguard programs LIHU'E — Ocean Safety officials announce that online registration for the 2019 Keiki and Junior Lifeguard programs will begin on Wednesday, May 1. The programs are free and designed to teach youth ocean safety and lifesaving skills. Additionally, it covers drug awareness, physical conditioning and competition skills. The Keiki Lifeguard Program is available to children ages 8 to 11 that can swim and run 50 yards nonstop. The Junior Lifeguard Program is open to youth ages 12 to 17 that can swim and run 100 yards nonstop. The free week-long program runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the following dates: • June 10 to 14, at Salt Pond Beach • June 17 to 21, at Hanalei Bay • June 24 to 28, at Kalapaki Beach • July 1 to 5, at Salt Pond Beach • July 8 to 12, at Hanalei Bay • July 15 to 19, at Kalapaki Beach Participants can register online on the county's website, www.kauai.gov/JuniorLifeguardPrograms. A computer for online registrations will also be available weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Fire Department headquarters located at the LThu'e Civic Center Piikoi Building, 4444 Rice Street, Suite 315. daily. Registration is limited to 50 participants per site. Participants will need to bring their own lunch, sunscreen and a towel to the training Program sponsors include the County of Kauai, Kauai Lifeguard Association, Hawaiian Lifeguard Association, and many generous businesses and individuals.
