RAYBUCK, CHIEF Tel (808) 241-1600 Fax (808) 241-1604 KPD seeking participants for upcoming Junior Police Academy program LIHU'E — The Kauai Police Department is accepting registrations for its upcoming Junior Police Academy program, set to begin on June 3. The academy will run for two weeks, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., beginning on June 3, and ending on June 14. Sessions will be held at Ka Hale Maka`i o Kaua'i, LThu`e Headquarters located at 3990 Ka'ana Street. Registrations are being accepted for all youth grades 9 through 12. Parents and guardians are encouraged to register their children online at www.kauaipal.org. The cost to register is $25, which includes lunch for students. Participants are required to be present every day in order to graduate from the program. Space is limited to 15 participants. All applicants will initially be placed on a waitlist when registering for the program. A representative from the Kauai Police Department will then be in contact with all applicants by May 28. KPD's Junior Police Academy is an interactive program designed to introduce high school youth to a career in law enforcement through various trainings, along with an introduction to the police department's policies and procedures. Training includes, but is not limited to the following topics: physical fitness; evidence collection; use of force; rappelling; Segway; first- aid/CPR; and active shooter/threat response.
