Hiker airlifted from Waimea Canyon
WAIMEA — Firefighters responded to a female hiker in distress Tuesday afternoon near
Waipo`o Falls in Waimea Canyon.
Waimea firefighters were notified of the incident around 3:40 p.m., when a 32-year-old
woman from Michigan reportedly fell and injured her leg while hiking along the trail.
Rescue 3 personnel aboard Air 1 responded to the call and located the woman about
100 yards from Waipo`o Falls. Firefighters splinted her leg, safely loaded her into the helicopter,
and airlifted her to a nearby landing zone.
Awaiting AMR medics provided additional support, and transported the woman to the
hospital for further treatment.
