Island Wide Road Resurfacing projects for 2019 announced
LIHUE — The Department of Public Works is announcing Fiscal Year 2019 Island Wide
Road Resurfacing projects for the island of Kauai.
"The resurfacing and repaving our roads are among our top priorities for the people of
our community," said Deputy County Engineer Lyle Tabata. "A total of 19 miles — which amount
to about $4.7 million of construction work — include Kawaihau and Olohena roads in Kapa`a,
Kilauea and `Aliomanu roads in Kilauea and Anahola, Papalina Road in Kalaheo, as well
numerous roads stretching from Koloa to Kekaha.

Improvements to roads that are federally -funded, which include a total of 6.7 miles and
$20 million of construction work for Koloa and Maluhia roads, are in the final stages of federal
and state environmental clearance, and are tentatively set to start construction in early 2020.
A community meeting regarding Koloa and Maluhia roads is set for June 25 at Koloa
Elementary School from 6 to 8 p.m.
