DAHILIG, MANAGING DIRECTOR C OF News Release For Immediate Release: June 13, 2019 KAUA`I FIRE DEPARTMENT KILIPAKI VAUGHAN, DEPUTY CHIEF Tel (808) 241-4980 Fax (808) 241-6508 Firefighters extinguish fire at Halelani Village PUHI — Firefighters responded to a structure fire at the Halelani Village condominiums in Puhi Wednesday night. The 56-year-old male resident was home when the fire started and was able to escape without serious injury. Multiple units were dispatched to the scene on Hanalima Street at approximately 9 p.m. to find heavy smoke coming from a second floor unit. Firefighters from the Lihu`e fire station were first on scene and were soon assisted by the Kapa`a firefighters and the on -duty Battalion Chief. Crews had the fire under control by about 10 p.m., before fully extinguishing all flames. Personnel ensured there was no further fire extension in the attic and cleared the scene at approximately 10:40 p.m. The occupant of the home was treated for non -life threatening injuries by responding AMR medics and released at the scene. Fire inspectors estimate the damage to the structure and its contents to be roughly $20,000. Volunteers with the American Red Cross are assisting the resident. The cause of the fire has been deemed accidental. 4 P e _ � It �.- © F
