Officials with the U.S. Coast Guard, Kauai Fire Department, Ocean Safety Bureau, Kauai Police Department, and Rescue 3 aboard Air resumed their search for the missing man on Monday morning. According to a preliminary report, Kauai Fire Department personnel responded to a report of a possible missing swimmer at Kauai Beach Drive on Sunday at approximately 3:10 p.m. Officials located the man's belongings close to shore on a beach fronting the Kauai Beach Resort. After hotel security conducted a thorough search of the grounds, KPD personnel responded to conduct a missing person's investigation. Photos of the man were shared with OSB, KPD, and Coast Guard officials. Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 responded along with Engine 2 and Truck 2 from the Kapa`a Fire Station. Lifeguards on a jet ski and Kauai police also joined the search along with the U.S. Coast Guard but so far there has been no sign of the victim. Rescuers observed two- to three-foot waves in the area, low water visibility, and a strong ripper current. Due to heavy rain with low visibility, the search was suspended at approximately 6 p.m. on Sunday. Updates on the incident will be given as information becomes available. Anyone with information about the missing swimmer is urged to call KPD Dispatch at 241-1711.
