Black Pot Beach Park reopens to the public
HANALEI — The Department of Parks and Recreation is announcing that Black Pot
Beach Park in Hanalei is now open to the public today, July 22.
"Construction work at Black Pot remains ongoing, however, we know the public is eager
to return to their iconic park and therefore we've decided to have a soft opening of the park,"
said Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami. "Parking and temporary restroom facilities are available for
park users while we continue to work on the permanent comfort station and additional parking
areas. We ask the public to please continue to heed signage and other new park rules so that
we can continue to keep the park open throughout the remainder of the construction period."
Recreational boaters will be allowed to use the mauka boat ramp between 5 a.m. to 10
p.m. daily. Recreational boaters will also be allowed to use the Welke Boat ramp between the
hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. after obtaining a Recreational Use Permit from the Department of
Parks and Recreation.
Camping at Black Pot remains closed until construction of the comfort station is
complete.
"We ask for the public's continued patience over the next year as we will be continuing
our park masterplan process," said Director of Parks and Recreation Patrick Porter.
To obtain a recreational boater permit for the overnight use of the Weke Boat Ramp, or
for more information on Black Pot Beach Park, please contact the Department of Parks and
Recreation at 808-241-4456.
