Portion of `Eiwa Street to close for reconstruction work
from July 31 to Sept. 06
LIHU`E — The Department of Public Works and Kiewit Infrastructure West Co. are
announcing that a portion of `Eiwa Street — from the `Eiwa Street bus stop to Rice Street — is
scheduled to be closed for reconstruction work from July 31 to Sept. 6, weather permitting.
As part of Phase 2 of the Lihu`e Town Core Mobility and Revitalization project, the scope
of reconstruction work for `Eiwa Street consists of demolition and roadway pavement
reconstruction, as well as construction of sidewalks, parking, bus stops, driveways, and
drainage structures and improvements.
During the closure, public access to the state building and the Historic County Building
(County Council) will remain open. Access to the Lihu`e Civic Center will be limited to the Hardy
and Rice street entrances. There will be no disruption to bus service at the `Eiwa Street bus
stop. A temporary traffic detour will be available utilizing Hardy and `Umi streets to enter Rice
Street.
Motorists are encouraged to allow for extra travel time when driving near the work areas,
use alternate routes, and to observe and follow all construction traffic controls. Please exercise
caution when traveling through the work areas.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Milissa Ceria of Kiewit
Infrastructure West Co. at 808-840-3282 or visit www.revitalizelihuetown.com. The project
website will also include construction schedule updates.
