Firefighters extinguish structure fire in Kekaha
KEKAHA — Firefighters responded to a structure fire in Kekaha that broke out early
Saturday morning on the corner of Alae Road and Kekaha Road.
No injuries were reported.
Waimea firefighters were dispatched to the scene at approximately 4:30 a.m. to find part
of a single -story unoccupied structure, approximately 30 feet by 40 feet, engulfed in flames.
Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control, but soon discovered that the fire had
extended into the building's stud walls.
Personnel from the Hanapepe and Lihu`e fire stations arrived on scene to provide
additional assistance, using forcible entry to access the structure's interior.
After the walls were cleared of the fire extension, personnel extinguished a smoldering
tree and bush which were adjacent to the building.
All personnel cleared the scene at approximately 7 a.m.
Fire inspectors estimate the damage to the structure and its contents to be roughly
$11,500.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
