Kawakami has appointed Adam Roversi as the County of Kauai housing director, effective September 1, 2019. "I am proud to select Adam for this very important position," said Mayor Kawakami. "Developing affordable housing is a top priority for our entire state, and we are all urgently planning for the future of our families. I am confident that Adam's experience and background in law, along with his long-standing dedication and involvement in our community, will propel the Housing Agency forward to further serve our island and people." Roversi previously served the County of Kauai as Deputy County Attorney since 2014. Prior to joining the County Attorney's office, Roversi taught legal writing at the University of Hawai`i's William S. Richardson School of Law. He has clerked for Chief Justice Mark Recktenwald at the Hawaii Supreme Court, federal Magistrate Judge Barry Kurren at United States District Court, and for Chief Judge Craig Nakamura at the Hawaii Intermediate Court of Appeals. Before entering the field of law, Roversi worked as a building contractor on Kauai focused on residential construction, finish carpentry, and custom furniture on the island's North and East shores. "I joined the County because I genuinely believe that local government done right can be one of the most effective vehicles for improving the quality of life for local families and preserving our beautiful island," said Roversi. "Access to affordable housing is no doubt the most pressing quality of life issue currently facing our community. I'm excited about the opportunity to continue to serve our island as the director of the Housing Agency, and look forward to working on this incredibly important issue." Roversi is a 32-year resident of Kilauea and graduated with honors from the University of Hawai`i's William S. Richardson School of Law with specialty certificates in both Native Hawaiian and Environmental Law. On his spare time he is the men's coach at Hanalei Canoe Club, Vice Chair of the Kauai Bar Association, Vice Chair of the Board for Ho`ike Community Television, and a regular volunteer at the Fifth Circuit Court's Self -Help Center.
