BLANE, CHIEF OF STAFF Tel (808) 241-4900 Fax (808) 241-6877 Acting Mayor signs eleventh supplementary emergency proclamation LIHU`E — Acting Mayor and Director of Finance Reiko Matsuyama has signed an eleventh supplementary emergency proclamation on Friday, October 25, for the County of Kauai, extending the emergency relief period for damages sustained during the April 2018 flood. The eleventh supplementary emergency proclamation further declares the provisions of all previous emergency proclamations. The disaster emergency relief period shall now continue until terminated 60 days after October 25, 2019, or by a separate proclamation — whichever comes first. The purpose of the emergency proclamation is to provide continued relief for disaster damages, losses, and suffering, and to protect the health, safety, and welfare of Kauai residents and visitors. Matsuyama is serving as Acting Mayor while Mayor Derek S. K. Kawakami and Managing Director Michael A. Dahilig are traveling on business to attend a conference on economic inclusion and capital matters, hosted by the Samuel DuBois Cook Center on Social Equity at Duke University and sponsored by JPMorgan Chase & Co. The three-day conference y explores the racial and gender disparities in self-employment and business, and how inequities of investment can affect health, education and economic mobility within our communities. Mayor Kawakami was invited to participate on a panel discussion on Thursday with fellow mayors from across the nation on Public/Private Partnerships and will return to Kauai on Saturday, Oct. 26.
