KAUA'I FIRE DEPARTMENT KILIPAKI VAUGHAN, DEPUTY CHIEF Tel (808) 241-4980 Fax (808) 241-6508 Hiker rescued in Wailua on Friday WAILUA — Firefighters responded to a report of a missing hiker on Friday morning in Firefighters were notified at approximately 7:50 a.m. of a missing Utah hiker in the Keahua Arboretum. After gathering an accurate description of the missing hiker's rental car, Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 were dispatched at approximately 9:40 a.m. and spotted the missing hiker's rental car at the first crossing near Kuamo`o Road in the Keahua Arboretum. After surveying the area during its first trip, Air 1 then refueled and continued the search for the missing hiker. At approximately 12 p.m., the hiker was located atop a waterfall on Powerline Trail. Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 short -hauled the uninjured hiker to a landing area at the Keahua Arboretum, escorted the hiker to his rental vehicle, and cleared the scene at approximately 1:30 p.m.
