Kilauea home destroyed by fire, family displaced
KILAUEA — A family of three has been displaced from their home on A`alona Street in
Kilauea following a fire that broke out Sunday morning.
Occupants were home when the fire started, and were able to safely exit the home
without injuries.
Hanalei firefighters were first on scene shortly before 10:30 a.m., and found the single -
story home fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters were soon joined by personnel from the
Kaiakea, Kapa`a, and LThu`e fire stations, as well as the on -duty Battalion Chief.
The fire was brought under control and fully extinguished at approximately 1:30 p.m.
The fire resulted in the total loss of the home. Fire inspectors estimate damages to the
structure and its contents to be roughly $420,000.
Volunteers with the American Red Cross are assisting the displaced family.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
