Kauai police keep blue cruise lights on 24/7
LIHU'E — Under a new provision declared by Kauai Police Chief Todd G. Raybuck,
officers and sergeants on patrol, unless otherwise specified and under special authorized
circumstances, are now required to keep their vehicle's stationary blue cruise lights on at all
times.
Patrol officers and sergeants are already required to keep their lights on at night, but
now they must have them on while traveling roads during the day. The new mandate was
created for a variety of reasons, including encouraging drivers to remain vigilant and abide by
traffic laws.
"We wanted to bring awareness to police presence on our roadways to remind drivers to
be mindful of their speed and driving habits," said Raybuck. "The purpose is also to increase
visibility of an officer's presence to deter crime and create a greater sense of community safety."
