Two Division of Purchasing employees designated Certified Professional
Public Buyers
LIHU'E — The Department of Finance is announcing that two employees in the Division
of Purchasing have been designated as Certified Professional Public Buyers (CPPB) from the
Universal Public Procurement Certification Council (UPPCC) Board of Directors.
"Kristi Mahi and Wendy Takemoto are the first county employees to be designated as
Certified Professional Public Buyers," said Mayor Derek S. K. Kawakami. "We are proud of their
tremendous effort in training and preparation to complete this certification."
The CPPB program is among the most highly regarded and well -respected certifications
among procurement professionals and their employers in the public sector, according to the
Universal Public Procurement Certification Council's website.
"Both Kristi and Wendy are Procurement and Specifications Specialists IV (PSS
IV). That is our senior procurement specialist designation," said Assistant Chief Procurement
Officer Ernest Barreira. "The PSS IV independently assumes responsibility for the most complex
procurement assignments and projects. Both were hired in 2013 and have remained with the
Division of Purchasing for the entire duration of their County service."
