1 P.M., UPDATE: Flash Flood Warning cancelled on Kauai; Kuhio Highway
near Hanalei Bridge remains closed
The Flash Flood Warning for Kauai has been cancelled, according to the National
Weather Service. However, Kuhio Highway in the vicinity of the Hanalei Bridge remains closed
until further notice due to flooding.
Motorists are advised that Kuhio Highway could remain closed for an extended period of
time due to a significant amount of water that currently remains on the road. Officials will
continue to monitor the water level and will reopen the highway as soon as it is safe for travel.
All other major roads have reopened. However, crews continue to address various areas
of fallen debris and utility lines.
Motorists are advised to drive with caution, and to report any new road closures to Police
Dispatch at 241-1711. For updates on current road conditions and closures, please call 241-
1725. Please do not call Kauai police 911 unless you have an emergency.
Ocean Safety officials continue to advise no swimming islandwide due to a brown water
advisory. Beachgoers are urged to heed all posted warnings and advisories. For up-to-date
information about Kauai ocean conditions and ocean safety, please speak to a county lifeguard
at any lifeguard station, visit www.hawaiibeachsafety.com, or call the Ocean Safety Bureau at
241-4984.
