(1913-2005) Rosa Parks was a civil rights activist who refused to surrender her seat to a white passenger on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama. Her defiance sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Its success launched nationwide efforts to end racial segregation of public facilities. On a cold December evening in 1955, Rosa Parks quietly incited a revolution — by just sitting down. She was tired after spending the day at work as a department store seamstress.... After Parks refused to move, she was arrested and fined $10. The chain of events triggered by her arrest changed the United States.Parks, the mother of the civil rights movement, made the decision to remain in her seat on a Montgomery, Alabama, bus because she didn't believe she should have to move because of her race, even though that was the law. This has inspired me because it only takes somebody such as rosa parks to have the bravery she stunted that very day on the bus, a white man needed a spot to sit on the bus that day and Rosa had already been sitting in her very spot which led to problems because according to discrimination back then during her era of time and how whites and blacks where favored over which skin color was more important and if white people could trust african americans which is very wrong. Skin color shouldn't matter and have the right to decide whether who gets the better spot to sit on the bus and if whites should be more favored over african americans back then they hated and never understood african americans and just discriminated them just over the color of there black skin, and look now in the present white people are praising african americans for example i'll throw to out there to make u laugh about this. We have already had a african american president which was obama which i know the whites would have never approved of back the days lol And not to mention how many celebrities_ Actors, they love and idolize that have skin color just like rosa parks and now white people and african americans have kids and are married, is that ok ? i guess so because times have changed and people have forgotten about how much they never liked blacks and now its the other way around and to top it off, my opinion on african americans is that i love them skin color doesnt matter they are truly the best hoopers/basketball players known to the planet earth kobe, micheal , and lebron james best players to ever step on a basketball court theres only one thing that cracks me up about these three names and if u can guess they all have somthing in common guess? All three of these goats are african american lol most proven fact i just proved and whites can just keep praising them because thats the only way to return to favor for how much they where treated wrongly just like Rosa parks RECEIVED dt a? MAR 0 5 2020 Ellen Degeneres BOARDS & COMMISSIONS Ellen Degeneres was born January 26, 1958, she's from Metairie, LA. She hosted the "The Ellen Show," in 2003. Ellen is a very caring and selfless person, she always puts people first and helps people that aren't doing financially well. Ellen has a very caring personality no wonder why everyone loves her. In one article it says "Ellen helps people ---with her show's famous munificence, spraying out gift cards, heads of lettuce, plane tickets, wads of cash to the lucky and the strapped; and more profoundly with the mood -elevating properties of her Ellen-ness." Which is pretty true, Ellen is a very giving person. I'd say she helped out many people with their struggles and has a heart of a diamond beautiful and strong. Another thing I'd say about Ellen is that she also donates to organizations that she thinks needs it most and is the most wonderful soul I ever know that cares about others. "Ellen supports people and families who are facing difficult times or those she feels need to be recognized for their good deeds and hard work for their communities. Some recent examples include a $10,000 contribution for the wedding of a breast -cancer survivor who relied on The Ellen Shovi• to lift her spirits during chemotherapy treatment and surgery recovery." From one article I have read. She's one person that I believe is a very wonderful person, not only does she keep her money for herself but she also gives money away to people who need it or deserve it. Ellen is a woman I know that gives out to the community and not just a selfish rich person. If it wasn't for Ellen people wouldn't have come out about their stories especially by being bisexual. She helped show those people that there is nothing to be afraid of us and to be yourself. She inspired me to help out the community and that's why I joined Leo club. I joined so that I could help out with the people and get some community service done, so I know I did at least something good in my life. It all started my sixth grade year in middle school, I remember there was a point of that year where I just didn't have the same strive as I used to have. It was like I lost my pride and light, I know it sounds dramatic but what can I say besides it's what I was feeling. I went throughout that year just really in a slump, which led me to get bullied in all sorts of ways. I remember crying to my mother about what they kids were saying about me, we called the cops and everything but the words just got worse. I went on with my middle school career just hating myself so much, I didn't take care of myself, lost some of my childhood friends.. I was at my lowest point. Now I get it, "Why are you telling me about this? I want to know women who inspire you," Don't worry I won't bore or sadden you with this, when I was at my lowest point so many people were by my side to bring me back and I'm so grateful for them. To the Public and Human Services Teacher, you taught me how to reflect on things and to fix them. You showed me that life is too short and I need to live it to the fullest. I remember you taught the class how to meditate because the boys were being too rude than usual, Thank you for showing me how to keep my cool even though I still struggle with not bursting out in anger. Thank you for being kind to me, I know you are a teacher and that's your job but they're some teachers who tend to be rude. To the girl in my sixth grade robotics class, you have inspired me to always smile even though it hurts. I remembered you told me one day in class, "I know it hurts right now but just know before the rainbow comes you gotta have the rainstorm." I know you got that from the movie, 'The Fault in Our Stars' but I still appreciate you making me smile and becoming one of my best friends till this day. You keep teaching me everyday that everyday is worth it, showing me not to let others words get to my head, Thank you. To the girl who had the crazy hair, you got to be one of the craziest child I have ever met. You showed me to be myself like nobody is watching, you always inspired me to do whatever makes me happy and if someone didn't like it. Just laugh in their face. I've never been happier being myself, Thank you for becoming someone I could lean on when I need a reminder that I'm fantastic. To my grandma Jen, you are one of the toughest ladies I know. You really go at it when it came to fishing, I remember when we were kids and you used to fish literally on the rocks. I love how real you are, like you say what's on your mind and when someone asks you for your opinion you give it to them straight up. The thing you do that inspires so much is that you are not afraid of anything, all your stories growing up always made me want to be fearless like you. Thank you grandma. To the lady that gave birth to me, who held me when I cried and who showed me from right and wrong, my mother. You taught me almost everything I know now, YOU molded me into the person I am today. Mom, you inspire me not only because you're my mom, you raise three kids, work two jobs and still make time for us, your family. Thank you for being my mom and loving me and supporting me in everything I do. Last but certainly not least, to the other young girls out there in the world, you ladies inspire me with all the crazy and empowering things you do to defend us girls. Everyday you ladies show me just how powerful our voices can be, thank you for never backing down from anything. I know this sounds repetitive but this my thank you letter to them, for showing me that there's always a brighter side to everything and inspiring me to be whoever I want to be. Thank you. A woman that I admire is Professor Solita Monsod of the Philippines. She has taught at the University of the Philippines since 1963. Professor Monsod appeals to me because she embodies what my parents have taught me and what I strive to be. She is an influential woman in the Philippines who is loyal to her country and herself, and has a direct positive effect on those around her. I, too, want to have a positive impact on people after graduating from college, and I feel like that positive influence is something must give in order to be satisfied with my life. I discovered Professor Monson through my parents watching one of her speeches on YouTube. In this lecture, she urged her students to place honor before excellence. "Do you know what the University motto is? Honor and excellence. Honor first before excellence. It's not excellence and honor, it's honor and excellence." Hearing her speech, it reminded me of my parents' teachings and made me think of how they raised me. Additionally, she enforced the idea that we all have what it takes to pass, and no one is trying to make you fail; only you can make yourself fail. This opened my eyes and really made me rethink how I viewed school and my own personal work. Additionally, in her lecture, she talked about cheating and she asked her students to pledge to her that they would act with honor and integrity. "You do not have to cheat. And cheating in the small things is going to lead to cheating in the large thing... Because once you cheat, you are now no longer part of the solution anymore, you are going to be very much a part of the problem." In the Philippines, it is documented that the government is very corrupt therefore this line really stood out to me. It made me think of my grandparents and why they moved to America. In the Philippines, it's hard to make honest money, and as a result, many Filipinos leave the Philippines in order to make money to support their families. However, Professor Monsod stayed in the Philippines and is actively helping by ingraining good morals into her students, so that she can feel assured that the future of the Philippines is in good hands. Going into adulthood, I recognize that this speech is important and can be applied to my own life. In the real world, one of the struggles I may face is maintaining my integrity and honor before excellence, and to not be tempted by corruption and money. Her speech about honor and excellence resonated within me and inspired me to be a positive influence on my family, community, and country. Quoting Professor Monsod, "I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something." A woman that inspires me is Joyce Jonte. She is an artist from Humboldt County, California. She graduatued from HSU studying art. Her work consists of representational drawing, life drawing, and landscape painting. My family and I lived there for seven years before we moved to Kauai in 2014. In those seven years my Mom always admired Joyce's art. Especially her figure art which portrays strength, wisdom, beauty, and grace in women. Back then, I only was able to see her art form only as paintings of nude ladies, as I was only in elementary school. Now when I look at Joyce's work. 1 can appreciate and understand her messages behind it all. Her figure art can be seen as minimal as there are hardly any tiny and precise details in the women she paints. She uses the blending of shapes and strokes of watercolor to evoke the mood in each womens' gesture. Her landscape art reminds me of my childhood in Humboldt. As a child my parents would bring me to the Redwood Tree Parks and I would explore the forests. We often went to the plaza where I would run in the grass and climb the trees until dark. A certain piece by Joyce titled "Strength and Beauty" reminds me of my Mom. The piece paints a bigger built, tan -skinned woman similar to her. In the painting the woman is standing nude with one arm across her chest holding her opposite shoulder. She looks strong, yet elegant like the title states. The painting is filled with mostly tan and brown shades setting a mood of richness and sturdiness. The piece is saying that strength and beauty comes in all forms. You don't have to be muscular or skinny. It comes from who you are and what you represent. My Mom is a hardworking and intellectual teacher, a role model in her community, and a proud mother of three children. She has strength and beauty, inside and out. I find it inspiring how Joyce can use art to show meaning and importance in women and the world, and one day I hope to be able to commission a painting of my Mom by Joyce Jonte. Generation after generation women are constantly put through battles, fighting for equality, fighting to be seen as more than just their bodies, fighting to be "accepted", fighting for the generations to come after them, fighting the same battles over and over again in hopes of making a difference. Through these battles, these fights, we begin to hear their voices and with that we begin to idolize them. We hope to make a difference in someone's life as they did in ours, because though their voices are sometimes overheard by the general public, their voice reached us for some reason. For some reason their voice sticks with us, inspiring us throughout our life. Everyone is inspired by someone for many different reasons. As for me, I was inspired by Ellen Degeneres. You may be thinking, "Why?... Why of all the women in the world, were you inspired by her?" and yes there are so many other women in the world. Ellen didn't change the laws for the people in any way, or change the laws of America in any way, but It's not about how many people her voice spoke to, or what laws she changed, It's about the fact that for some reason her voice reached me. She gave me a strong female role -model to look up to. I remember sitting in the living room with my mom when I was about five years old, and she was watching Ellen. At the time I had no idea who Ellen was, and 1 remember watching her show and learning about her story. For some reason when I was just five years old, her story really spoke to me. I had no idea why and I couldn't understand why. As I started getting older 1 gradually started to realize why her story had stuck with me. Her story stuck with me because hearing her story gave me someone to look up to. Someone who I could relate to. Someone who wasn't afraid to be who they were. She reached me because I was scared to be who 1 was. I lied to myself about who I was, I couldn't accept who I was, I wasn't okay with who I was, and I did everything in my power to deny/ avoid being... me. Over the past decade or so of my life, I've grown tremendously. I learned to not let others decide who I am, for me. I learned that genuinely being yourself and being okay with that enough to share it with people, is one the hardest things that we have to overcome in life. I finally came to the realization that I had to face my difficulties/ challenges and be who I wanted to be. I am definitely still working on myself, but I can honestly say that 1 am so much more of the person my younger self wanted to be, and I am so much more of my genuine self. So —be who YOU want to be. Be who you are, not the person you think other people want you to be. Stay true to you and don't be afraid to do that. You don't have to change the laws of America, or change the world to inspire someone, you just have to be you. #7 My mother's mother was born in the city of Seoul. Her upbringing was full of fast cars and smog, and long workdays and then long nights caring for her young siblings. Many times, she would be the only one home, working to clean the house, study in school, and be a strong leader for the other children around. She emerged independently through the smoke to be a strong and valiant woman, having two girls of her own, and now 4 grandchildren. I was unknowing when growing up watching her move gracefully, working, cooking, cleaning, teaching, and supporting our family. Now I see her, shining with beauty. Her once porcelain back now covered in sunspots from working in the garden, and hands scarred and beaten from decades as a commissary cashier. Her hard work does not go unnoticed anymore. When I think of strength I think of her. She inspires me in all of my actions and I try to make her proud of everything I do. It took me man) years to understand the full weight of her presence in my life. I learned many things subliminally from her that now in my 18th year of life 1 can identify. Once, we were walking to her friend's house to pick flowers and make lei for the afternoon. She has never been fond of driving, so we walked almost everywhere we would go to play. This time I was around 6 or 7 years old, and I can vividly remember passing by so many flower trees; gardenias, hibiscus, pikake. Her rough hand in my small one, strolling down the sidewalk. When we arrived, I could not contain my excitement! I wanted to pick every flower I came across, and take them home to cherish them and gaze at them. My grandmother encouraged me to save the occasion to pick the flower for when we would need it. This memory may seem small and of no importance. I believe that I still remember it for a reason. For so many years I've driven past the same route we would walk almost daily and think of how it would feel to walk the same path again, to feel the rubbery petals of hibiscus and yearn to pluck it from its bush. My grandmother imprinted the simple satisfaction of taking a stroll in the sun underneath the protection of a sun hat and a sun umbrella. She never failed to remind me to be full of grace, to enjoy the simple things, and to be grateful for everything. She taught me to stop and smell the flowers, instead of picking them, to preserve and cultivate their beauty instead of taking them away from this world. Some days I imagine her sitting with her glasses poised, calculator and pen in hand, balancing her checkbook. Some days I imagine her squatted on the floor of the kitchen, hovering over a bowl filled with kimchi ready to be massaged and bottled. When I see her over school breaks or when she visits, she reminds me of a beautiful flower l used to want to pick and hold close. As I am older now, I know that every life is too precious to be plucked from existence, and flowers must be left alone to blossom, mature, and grow wise. Without her, I would not be the woman I am now. Now I am ready to face the world. Ready to blossom, to live every day with hope, grace, a smile, and maybe a stroll. RECEIVED # j March 6, 2020 MAR 2 0 2020 BOARDS & COMMISSIOt!= The Truth "Truth is powerful and it prevails." - Sojourner Truth. This means the truth is always more powerful and will always win. Sojourner Truth was an abolitionist and a women's rights activist in the 1850's. She is best known for her famous "flint I a women?" speech on May 29, 1851. Sojourner Truth is an inspiration to me because she always fought for her family and for what she believed in; that makes her respectable to me. The main example of her fight for her family is when she lost custody of her son. She went to court and fought for custody of her son who was sold to slavery at the very young age of five. She became the first black woman to win this type of course case against a white man. Prior to winning the court case, she escaped back to freedom with her five year old son. This shows her dedication and courage to fight for her family regardless if it was against the norm in her time. The most inspiring aspect of her personality is that she proved that actions speak louder than words. "if women want any rights more than theys got why don't they just take them and not be talking about it?".1 really like how she emphasized taking what you want instead of just sitting around and complaining about what you don't have. It takes a lot of effort and courage to be the first person to stand up and actually do something to solve a problem. The last reason she inspires me is because she proves that no matter how bad your past is you can always change your future for the better. The biggest problem that she overcame was that she was bom into slavery. Eventually she escaped slavery and became a free woman. She then went back to win custody of her son and live life with her son and daughter. Even after all the problems she faced in life, she still went back to fight for women's rights. Without Sojourner Truth we'd probably live in a world where women would be more afraid and discouraged to fight for their rights. We should appreciate her because she went through all these life changing problems, yet she still fought to better society. The biggest improvement she brought to this world is giving women a voice and courage to fight for what they want. "I am not going to die, I am going home like a shooting star -Sojourner Truth. This quote proves that she isn't just going to leave this world without changing it. March 6, 2020 Sabrina Ionescu: the next G.O.A.T RECEIVED *9 MAR 2 0 2020 BOARDS & CoMmIsSI DN:> Sabrina Ionescu is a 22 year old NCAA basketball player at Oregon State University. She is the first young woman in college basketball to hit an all-time record of 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 1,000 assists. She is a very humble player and doesn't care about what anyone has to say about her, she just plays her game. She once said "If you can't lake missing that shot, then you can't take that shot either. And if you're not ready to lose the game for us, you'll never be ready to win the game." This quote has that effect on someone and makes you realize if you can't handle something that can break you down easily, you will never be able to handle something that brings you up either. You need to be able to handle both sides of any situation, not just one. Sabrina was an outstanding high school player and she continues to be an outstanding college player. She played all four years of high school basketball on the Miramonte High School team. During her senior year, she averaged 25.3 points, 8.8 assists, 7.6 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 1.3 blocks every game. She left her high school with a win -loss record of 119-9. From her freshman year to senior year playing college basketball, she worked for her 26th triple -double of her career. During her college career, she earned the 2017 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, 2018 espnW's college basketball player of the week, 2019 John R_ Wooden award, 2019 Wade Trophy and a few more for the hard work that has been observed. Sabrina is a well-known athlete these days. Sabrina has said that Kobe Bryant and Gianna Bryant were two of the brightest souls she has ever met. She looked up to Kobe since she was young. When Kobe passed away she was devastated. On February 24th, 2020, at the memorial service for Kobe and Gianna, Sabrina spoke out about her relationship with the two. She opened up and talked about how he was the "mentor, idol, inspiration, and close friend." She also talked about her childhood and how all she did was watch Kobe play and all she wanted to be was just like him. "I wanted to be just like him, to love every part of the competition, to be the first to show up and the last to leave, to love the grind, to be your best when you don't feel your best and make other people around you the best version of themselves." The night of the memorial, Sabrina played a game against Stanford. That was the game Sabrina surpassed her 26th triple double of her college career. Sabrina was affected deeply by the loss of Kobe and Gianna, but it didn't stop her from playing a great game despite what had happened right before it. The emotion she showed really made me realize that she wasn't the same person she was on the court. She is a very kind and light-hearted individual. From being an all around great player, she is the No.l ranked leader in triple doubles. Her hard work and dedication to the game has been observed since her high school career. The Oregon Ducks are also No.l in scoring offense averaging 86.0 points per game. Oregon has a win -loss record of 17-1. As we are nearing the end of the season, I'm sure Sabrina is working hard with her team so they can take home the championship trophy. Coming from my own point of view, I feel like Sabrina is the most hard working basketball player I've seen in a long time. I also feel like she is a big part of how we are changing the world by bringing light into women's sports. On average, WNBA players have been paid less than half of an NBA salary. Women have been trying to change this for several years now but nothing has changed I think that one day, with the help of positive, inspirational players Re Sabrina, female athletes will be able to overcome the gap in not only the WNBA but all women's sports. httosJ/www.cbsnews com/newslkobe-bryant-memorial abrina ionescu eulogy spgec_ h staples c enter-memorial-oregon-ducks-division-i/ RECEIVED 1# to MAR 2 0 2020 March 6, 2020 BOARDS & COMMISSIONS Amelia Earheart Amelia Earhart turned into a very well known woman, who not only showed bravery flying across the Atlantic Ocean, but broke the expectations for women in her time. Her complete tale is riveting and conjures up many people in the course of the world. She showed bravery by accomplishing things that no other woman has ever done. Earheart set a high bar and showed no hesitation to overcome tasks that have been considered impossible. Not only did she threaten her own life doing what she loved, she succeeded at it. Earheart's accomplishments have made their way into the history books. She became the first girl to pass the Atlantic Ocean, showing that she wasn't afraid to tackle new responsibilities. On top of that she was the first female to fly throughout the Pacific Ocean unaccompanied. Her accomplishments became known around the world. Even though there have been many theories of Earhearts's disappearance, they all proved that she was, brave woman. One theory states that Earheart and her partner, Noonan, were traveling through a dangerous place close to the Island of Nikumaroro. The winds were horrible which made it hard to fly. Earhart tried landing throughout the winds, but in the end the wind tore away at the aircraft and the two have been stranded at the island, and in the end they died because of the lack of resources. Earheart didn't die in vain, she died doing what she loved and inspired boys and girls to accomplish anything in life. March 6, 2020 Different, Not Less RECEIVED # /I MAR 2 0 2020 BOARDS & COMMISz,E['t! While many people are inspired by the brave suffragettes, bold first ladies, or strong world leaders in our history books, I am inspired by a less known woman who still made a huge difference in meaningful ways "I am different, not less." These are the simple but significant words of Temple Grandin, an influential autistic woman. Born with autism, her hypersensitivity to sensory stimuli and love for animals gave her the ability to understand the perspective of livestock and others with autism. Temple Grandin inspires me to use my differences to my advantage, to see through the lenses of others who are overlooked, and advocate for those who cannot stand up for themselves. Temple Grandin is an advocate for autism awareness and has dedicated her life to changing the way people handle and view autism in other people. She believes in neurodiversity and speaks about the importance of having different types of minds in our world. In her TED talk and several books, she speaks about the beauty of having different functioning minds in society. As a woman with autism, she is truly able to express the ideas of autisic people all over the world, who maybe cannot do so for themselves. Temple Grandin is relentless in her work to fight against the stigma that autism is a disability which needs to be cured. She has unveiled the beauty of people with autism and the value of their differences. Grandin's unique mind and passion for animals led her to change the way companies handle livestock for meat production. tier attention to details in her environment and visual thinki g from her autism allowed her to understand the minds of cattle. This is a skill which many people without autism do not have, or couldn't develop even if they tried. She used this ability to invent a curved corral which creates a stress free way for livestock to be transferred between locations of slaughterhouses. The methods that slaughterhouses have used to handle livestock are truly gory and inhumane. But because of her work, half of the cattle -processing facilities in the U.S have changed their handling systems to ones she designed. As a result of her autism, she was able to advocate for these animals which have no voice to speak for themselves. She changed the practices of an entire industry through the abilities which her autism gave her. In addition to her contributions, Temple Grandin's successful life is an inspiration on its own. Grandin overcame her disability which was thought to be a setback for her in life. On the contrary, her autism was her power, and her contributions could not have been possible without it. Furthermore, she managed to overcome being a woman in a predominantly male industry. Despite being told her whole life that she was less, she managed to achieve success, make a life for herself, prove her strength, diminish animal cruelty in an entire industry, and educate the world about autism. As an animal loving, Colorado raised girl in 2020, Temple Grandin's achievements are truly motivational and impelling. If a woman who had all the odds stacked against her can still make it in this world, then so can 1. She motivates me to stand up for my passions, persevere through obstacles I face, and to never assume less of someone who is different. March 6, 2020 RECEIVED OPP. MAR 2 0 2020 BOARDS & COMMISSION Queen Lili'u I mohala no ka lehua i ke ke'ekahi 'ia a ka ua. The lehua blossom unfolds when the rains treads on it. In Queen Lili'u's lifetime she went through obstacles and heartache that, luckily, most of us will never have to go through. Even if she was royalty, life for her wasn't the easiest. But she took the pain and used it to grow. Queen Lili'u, the very last monarch of Hawai'i, is an inspiration to me because of her intelligence, and the aloha spirit she gave to her people while being one of the most revered ali'i of her time. During her reign, Queen Lili'u was not only book smart but she was ingenious. Queen Lili'u used her intelligence to do amazing things for Hawai'i. It especially showed on July 7, 1898 when she was arrested at gunpoint, and locked in her palace. She was forced to sign a document created by American businessman to give up the monarchy of Hawai'i. To save her people from further destruction, she signed the document to satisfy the businessmen, and keep her people safe. But she found a loophole, and she signed the document with a false name: Liliuokalani, which wasn't her birth name. As a result it made the document invalid. She did this in hopes that her people would realize that she was protecting their future. E ho'a'o no i pau kuhihewa. Try it to end the panic. Queen Lili'u was kind hearted and showed aloha to everybody; she was a revered ali 'i. She worked hard to get herself the title of Queen. Before she was Queen she was appointed the position of sole regent, then shortly after that crowned Queen. During her reign, leprosy struck Hawai'i. The lepers were banished to Kalaupapa to live out the rest of their lives. The Queen visitod them and brought gifts such as clothes, music, pictures, food, and other amenities so that they were as comfortable as possible. She visited with them to make sure they continued to feel the love from her. After being forced out of reign, she even resided amongst her people. Instead of having petulant behavior after being overthrown she was kind and loving towards everybody. She was known to always have candies in her pockets that she gave the keiki. She didn't have as much as people expected her to have, yet she gave so much to her people because of the love engraved in her heart for Hawai'i and its kama aina. The beloved Queen Lili'u was a woman with an abundance of aloha, she was a revered leader, and she was such an intelligent woman. Queen Lili'u ended one of the most hysterical time of Hawai'i's history. Being the only woman to occupy the throne in the history of Hawai'i I think that she very much proved how hard one person is capable of worling in order to make a change. She did what she had to do, which in turn shaped Hawai'i into what it is today. My admiration for Queen Lili'u and what she has done in her lifetime is everlasting. These were the inspiring words of Boudicca Queen of the Celts. tier story is a lot like the movie, "Braveheart" but the real version. Now she inspires me because she led and inspired thousands of people to join her to fight and almost defeat one of the biggest empires of the ancient world. In 43AD, the Celts began their conquest of England and had taken control over most of the area. In that time, King Prasulegus had agreed to ally with the Roman Empire after a failed revolt against the Romans.Throughout the years the Iceni and other tribes stayed under Roman rule and the Roman Empire continued its conquest of England. Roman soldiers had been cruelly treating Boudicca's people and killed her husband. Iler daughters were also raped by Roman soldiers and Boudicca herself was lashed and beaten. And in her rage she called a meeting with the other leaders of the local tribes and gave a speech to convince them to join her in her uprising. What inspires me about her was that she was able to inspire the other tribes to put aside their differences to fight back against the Romans. She was elected the queen and all tribes agreed to follow her. Boudicca new that if the Celts wanted their freedom they would have to fight for it. Boudica's uprising against the Romans and her determination to bring freedom to her people is another thing about her that inspires me. She had witnessed the strength of the Roman empire but she was still not afraid to fight them once again for the freedom of her people. Armed with her sword and horse front chariot, she stood in front of her celtic anny. They began their rebellion by targeting the Roman City called Camulodunum. Then her army proceeded to londinium and burned the entire city to the ground. And in the city there were enslaved tribal men who were enslaved by the Romans and started to follow Boudicca ,bringing her army from 120,000 men to 230,000. At this point the emperor of Rome was considering pulling his troops out of Britain and if Boudicca kept attacking at a rapid rate, she would succeed in defeating the Roman Empire. Another reason why she inspires me is her refusal to surrender or Iose. The battle of Watling Street was Boudicca's last stand against the roman empire.General Paulinus who was the Roman General during Boudicca's rebellion had convinced the Emperor of Rome that he could have one last chance to defeat Boudicca's army. Before the battle, the Celts were very confident that they would be victorious and they out numbered the romans 20 to 1. Although the Roman Empire had an army of 10,000 men; they were better equipped, had more advanced technology, and had a better strategy to fight against the Celts. Boudicca's army never wore any type of armor and had lower class weapons. This was a major loss for the Celts army, and while the Romans lost only 400 of their 10,000 army. Shortly after the battle took her own life after the risk of beig caught ad put into slavery.Nowadays this act seems insane, but back then it was the honorable thing to do. But the significance of her act showed her refusal to surrender to the Roman Empire. She lost but she did not surrender, she died trying. Boudicca is a historical figure that not much seem to about. Her story is incredible and truly inspirational. Although she is taught about in england she should be appreciated more. She was one of very few people that nearly won a war against the Roman Empire which was the biggest empire at the time. Her refusal to surrender, her stand for freedom, and her incredible leadership skills to unite thousands of people is why this historical women inspires me. RECEIVED 414 BOARDS & COMMISSIONS Beautiful but brave, tender yet still strong, supportive and also a leader —women feel so many emotions yet are able to lead with grace and humility. These many emotions allow women to inspire others in a way no one else can. The remarkable women of our history such as: Amelia Earhart, Rosa Parks, Wilhemina Kekelaokalaninui Widemann Dowsett, and Susan B. Anthony, made changes by working hard and standing up for what they believe. One woman that personally inspires me because of her strong character and work ethic is Kimberly Cabrera. She may not be in any history books but she certainly possesses the characteristics of history's great women. Mrs. Cabrera created and still manages an important branch of the SANS cyber security training program. She was not just given this position; she started from nothing. Much like the inspiring women of history, she had to work very hard to get where she is today. The Nineteenth Amendment was not just handed to Susan B. Anthony. She had to actively protest and gain a platform. It took her many failures before fabricating a change. Similarly, Kimberly Cabrera suffered many trials and mistakes before creating her successful branch. Tile people who make differences are the ones that persevere through challenging times. Mrs. Cabrera's strong will and perseverance allowed her to face and conquer every obstacle that she came across. On top of being a phenomenal business woman she is also a mother of nine children. Most women are either great business women or great mothers, sometimes neither, but rarely both. Kimberly Cabrera is an exception to this rule. She manages to be fully devoted to her family and still be completely involved in her company. She has inspired me in so many ways. She has taught me that no matter what one's starting circumstances are, they can always exceed them by working hard and never giving up. That does not mean that there will be no trials, it's the reaction to those difficulties that makes the difference. We need more role models like Mrs. Cabrera. We need strong women-- - not necessarily physically strong, but mentally strong. Women who know right from wrong. Women who are not afraid to stand up for what they believe. Women who use their emotion and compassion to inspire others. I wish to one day be a strong woman just like Amelia Earhart, Rosa Parks,Wilhemina Kekelaokalaninui Widemann Dowsett, Susan B. Anthony, and, last but not least, Kimberly Cabrera.
