was grateful for the partnership. Chair Yukimura congratulated Ms. Valente on its success
and commented that 68,865 is a far and wide reach of an audience. Ms. Valente said they

CSW 2020-04 Hawai`i State Commission on the Status of Women — Statement for Black
Lives dated June 2, 2020.
Chair Yukimura expressed her desire to add this to the agenda given the state of the nation
and felt it was appropriate to take a moment to review and reflect. She said it aligned with
the committee's values and brought it up for discussion. Secretary Ignacio Neumiller said
the statement should be shared with the Public Information Officer (PIO) for a press release
and wasn't sure if the committee was prepared to make a press release of their own.
Administrator Ellen Ching responded that if the committee agreed to allow Chair Yukimura
and herself the flexibility to draft a press release, she could come up with a final draft and
submit it to the PIO for approval and distribution.
Chair Yukimura inquired if the County of Kauai made a statement. Ms. Ching remembered
that Mayor Kawakami addressed Black Lives Matter during one of his Facebook COVID-19
updates in conjunction with Police Chief Raybuck. She wasn't sure if a print ad was done,
but added that it was appropriate that the CSW make one, as it stand for equality of all
nationalities and ethnicities. Ms. Ching would check with the Mayor's Office first.
Secretary Ignacio Neumiller
moved to allow Ellen Ching and
Chair Yukimura the authority to
