HomeMy WebLinkAbout8.125 ELECTRICIAN-ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT REPAIRER 20211007PART I DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES COUNTY OF KAUAI 8.125 Class Specifications for the Class: ELECTRICIAN-ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT REPAIRER BC-11 BU-01 Duties Summary: Installs, maintains and repairs a variety of electrical systems, equipment and appurtenant fixtures; performs skilled work in the installation, testing, maintenance and repair of operational electronic equipment and electronic component parts; and performs other related duties as required. Distinguishing Characteristics: This class is distinguished by its responsibility to install, maintain and repair a variety of electrical systems, equipment and appurtenant fixtures and, in addition, performs skilled work in the installation, testing, maintenance and repair of operational electronic equipment and electronic component parts. Examples of Duties: (The following are examples of duties and are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in this class. The omission of specific duties statements does not preclude management from assigning such duties if such duties are a logical assignment for the position). • Installs conduits, computer cables, transformers, pull boxes, plugs, convenience outlets and switches; • Rewires buildings; • Installs, maintains and repairs pumps, motors, and various other types of electrical equipment and apparatus; • Inspects and makes repairs of switch gears, resistor and capacitor banks, power circuits, blowers and generators; • Replaces fuses and incandescent and fluorescent lights; • Plans electrical installations; • Performs shop diagnosis, testing, adjustment and repair of new or defective operational electronic equipment or electronic component parts for fire/burglar alarm systems, automatic sprinkler systems, emergency generator transfer panels, clock/time recorders, and a variety of other systems, equipment and appurtenant fixtures having electronic integration; PART I ELECTRICIAN-ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT REPAIRER 2 8.125 • Performs field work in installing, trouble shooting and repairing electronic control devices; • Uses and maintains testing equipment such a volt-ohm milliammeters, capacity checkers, dynamic mutual conductance tube testers, oscilloscopes, wave meters, audio oscillators, frequency meters and power output meters; • Reads and interprets plans and schematic diagrams; • Locates, tests and repairs trouble in electrical and electronic circuits and makes minor modifications to satisfy specific needs; • Makes sketches of proposed wiring systems and circuitry to facilitate repair work; • Estimates labor and material requirements and maintains records of actual use; • May maintain and repair electronic traffic signal equipment; and • Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge of: Principles and theories of electricity and electronics; practices, tools, equipment and materials used in the electrical and electronic trades; installation, maintenance and repair of electrical/ electronic equipment, apparatus and instruments; testing equipment and testing procedures in maintaining and repairing electronic components; hazards involved in working around energized lines and equipment; safety practices of the trades. Ability to: Read and interpret blueprints, plans diagrams and schematics of electrical and electronic circuits; plan electrical wiring installations; make minor modifications to electrical and electronic circuits; install, maintain, test, repair and troubleshoot electrical/electronic systems and equipment; estimate material requirements; work with dexterity and safety; understand and follow oral and written instructions; maintain good working relationships with others; handle weights and loads. ANDERSON Director of Human Resources PART II DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES COUNTY OF KAUAI 8.125 Minimum Qualification Specifications for the Class: ELECTRICIAN-ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT REPAIRER BC-11, BU-01 Training & Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school. Substitutions Allowed: The following may be substituted for education: A. Four (4) years of full time general work experience may be substituted for a high school diploma. B. Successful completion of semester credits leading towards a degree or diploma from an accredited community college, college or university, trades school, etc., may be substituted up to four (4) years of the education requirement (15 semester credits = 6 months). C. An Associate’s, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited community college, college or university, trades school, etc., may be substituted for the education requirement. If a degree is used to substitute for the education requirement, it may not be used again towards the experience requirement. If work experience is used to substitute for education, it may not be used again to meet the experience requirement. If the applicant holds more than one degrees, transcripts must be provided and a thorough review will be conducted by the DHR staff in order for more than one degree to be credited towards the minimum qualification requirements. Additional degrees can be considered if obtained independently through mutually exclusive classes from another degree being considered. Substitutions will be used to the advantage of the applicant. Quality of Experience: Possession of the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for a position. The applicant's overall experience must have been of such scope and level of responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that he/she has the ability to perform the duties of the position for which he/she is being considered. PART II ELECTRICIAN-ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT REPAIRER 2 8.125 License Requirement: Possession of a State of Hawai'i journey electrician's or industrial electrician's license; possession of a valid motor vehicle operator license (Hawaii Type 3 or equivalent). Selective Certification: Specialized knowledge, skills and abilities may be required to perform the duties of some positions. For such positions, Selective Certification Requirements may be established and certification may be restricted to eligibles who possess the pertinent experience and/or training required to perform the duties of the position. Agencies requesting Selective Certification must show the connection between the kind of training and/or experience on which they wish to base selective certification and the duties of the position to be filled. Tests: Applicants may be required to qualify on an appropriate examination. Health and Physical Condition Requirements: Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. Physical Effort Grouping: Heavy This is an amendment to the specification for the class, ELECTRICIAN-ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT REPAIRER, which was approved on August 2, 1989, and is to be substituted for that specification.
