Mayor Kawakami announces Emergency Rule 17 confirming critical
infrastructure workers must quarantine in hotel or motel
LĪHU’E – The County of Kaua‘i announced on Wednesday Mayor’s Emergency Rule 17
which clarifies that all persons performing critical infrastructure functions must designate a hotel
or motel as a quarantine location. After the quarantine period is completed, they are free to stay
in other locations.
Gov. David Ige signed Emergency Rule 17 on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2020. Any person
violating any rule of the governor or mayor, if convicted, could face a fine of up to $5,000 or a
serve up to a year in jail, or both.
