BLANE, CHIEF OF STAFF (808) 241-4900 Kaua‘i Department of Health announces one new case of COVID-19 on Sunday LĪHU‘E – The Kaua‘i District Health Office reported one new case of COVID-19 on Sunday, Dec. 20. Today’s case is an adult female visitor whose source of infection remains under investigation. All active cases are in isolation, and one case remains hospitalized on O‘ahu. Close contacts are being identified, directed to quarantine, and offered testing. Today’s case brings the number of on-island active cases to 8, with 159 cumulative cases. Kaua‘i’s cumulative case count includes 139 confirmed locally, one probable, and 19 positive cases diagnosed elsewhere, as they received their pre-travel test results after arriving on island. Mayor’s Emergency Rule 23 remains in effect, which sets a temporary moratorium of the Safe Travels program. Under Governor Ige’s 17th COVID-19 emergency proclamation, effective Dec. 17, all incoming travelers to Kaua‘i, including mainland and inter-island residents and visitors, are under a mandatory 10-day quarantine. The county’s modified quarantine program remains in place for critical infrastructure workers, essential medical travel, or other special circumstances.
