Kaua‘i Department of Health announces one new case of COVID-19
LĪHU‘E – The Kaua‘i District Health Office reported one new case of COVID-19 on
Saturday, Dec. 5.
The case is an adult male resident and is travel-related. The individual took a pre-travel
test out of state prior to departure to Kaua‘i and received his positive test result while under the
mandatory 14-day quarantine currently in effect.
All active cases are in isolation, and one case is hospitalized. Close contacts are being
identified, directed to quarantine, and offered testing.
Today's case brings the number of on-island active cases to 11, with 139 cumulative
cases. Kaua‘i’s cumulative case count includes 121 confirmed locally, one probable, and 17
positive cases diagnosed elsewhere, as they received their pre-travel test results after arriving
on island.
The Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami’s Emergency Rule 23 sets a temporary moratorium of
the Safe Travels program. Under this rule, effective Dec. 2, all incoming travelers, including
mainland, inter-island residents, and visitors, are under a 14-day mandatory quarantine.
