News Release For Immediate Release: September 28, 2020 DOW to offer free water education activity kits in honor of ‘Imagine a Day Without Water’ LIHUE– The Department of Water (DOW) is offering a drive-thru distribution of free water education activity kits for keiki and their families on Tuesday, Oct. 6th from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Vidinha Stadium parking lot in Lihue. The free water education event is part of the DOW’s celebration of the national Imagine a Day Without Water awareness campaign. No registration is required; first come, first served. “The water activity kits are a great way to introduce water education during fall break”, said Jason Fujinaka, DOW’s Information Specialist. “We invite students and their families to pick-up a free kit during the event to learn more about the importance of water in our everyday lives.” The water education activity kits will include: a Project WET (Water Education Today) activity booklet with interactive water lessons, a 5-minute shower timer, a collapsible water bottle, low-flow household fixtures, a notebook and other fun supplies. Additionally, DOW is hosting a special Facebook campaign in October; featuring educational IADWW related posts, and a Value Water Challenge. All water users are invited to take the Value Water Challenge on Facebook by sharing a video or written post, answering the question: Why is water important to you? Participants of the challenge may include the hash tags #ValueWaterKauai and #IADWWKauai on their post for a chance to be seen and featured on the DOW’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/KauaiDOW. Imagine a Day Without Water is celebrated nationally on October 21st and is led by the Value Water Campaign, as an opportunity for diverse organizations, from environmental advocates to coffee shops, developers to farmers, local fishermen to public water utilities, to talk about what and why water is important to them. This year, DOW joins a statewide team of IADWW participants to host Facebook events on Oct. 21st.
