BLANE, CHIEF OF STAFF (808) 241-4900 Hawai‘i State Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office announces 7 new cases of COVID-19 on Jan. 8 LĪHU‘E – The Hawai‘i State Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office reported seven new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, Jan. 8. Friday’s cases are all residents, two adults and five children, whose sources of infection are travel-related. All active cases are in isolation, and one case remains hospitalized on O‘ahu. Close contacts are being identified, directed to quarantine, and offered testing. Friday’s cases bring the number of on-island active cases to 20, with 191 cumulative cases. Kaua‘i’s cumulative case count includes 164 confirmed locally, one probable, and 26 positive cases diagnosed elsewhere, as they received their pre-travel test results after arriving on island. "We are seeing entire families test positive after traveling to the mainland,” said Dr. Janet Berreman, Kaua‘i District Health Officer. “This is a reminder that with the high rate of infection on the mainland, it is dangerous to travel there at this time.” For more information on the county’s COVID-19 response, visit www.kauai.gov/COVID-19.
