9:15 A.M. UPDATE: Flash Flood Warning cancelled on Kaua‘i; Kūhiō Highway in the
vicinity of Hanalei Bridge remains closed
The Flash Flood Warning for Kaua‘i has been cancelled, according to the National Weather
Service.
Kūhiō Highway in the vicinity of the Hanalei Bridge remains closed until further notice due to
flooding. The northbound lane of Kūhiō Highway at Kalihiwai Bridge is now open.
While the National Weather Service has cancelled the Flash Flood Warning for Kaua‘i, a Flash
Flood Watch remains in effect through Thursday afternoon. A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions
may develop that leads to flash flooding. Residents and visitors should monitor the weather and be
prepared to take action in the event that a Flash Flood Warning is issued.
Due to the closure of Kūhiō Highway, Ocean Safety officials have announced that the Kē‘ē and
Hā‘ena beach lifeguard towers will remain closed today until further notice.
Additionally, the Kapa‘a Refuse Transfer Station green waste is currently closed due to weather
conditions. The KCRS Kilauea Redemption Site will open at 9 a.m. Please follow transfer station updates
at www.kauai.gov/transferstations.
The state Department of Education announced that Hanalei Elementary School is closed today.
Ponding, low visibility and other hazardous driving conditions are expected. If you must drive,
please do so with extreme caution.
