Missing fisherman found dead at Ahukini Landing
LĪHUʿE – A missing fisherman, 63-year-old Don Jeffries III of Līhuʽe, was found dead Wednesday
at Ahukini Landing.
According to a preliminary report, a missing person call was made to Kauaʿi Police Department
Dispatch around 11 a.m. after a vehicle was discovered unattended in the parking lot. Fishing equipment
and keys were also found nearby on the pier with no one in the area.
Kauaʿi firefighters with Rescue 3, Air 1, Engine 3, and the KFD Dive Team, as well as the on-duty
Battalion Chief and the Ocean Safety Bureau East Roving Patrol Unit responded to the scene. A search
was conducted around the area where Jeffries’ last location was believed to be.
Kauaʽi police also responded to the scene and the Ahukini Landing parking lot was closed to the
public while a search took place.
Jeffries was recovered shortly thereafter by OSB lifeguards and KFD personnel directly below the
pier.
Jeffries was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to Wilcox Medical Center. There was
no sign of foul play and an autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
