BLANE, CHIEF OF STAFF (808) 241-4900 Mayor signs emergency proclamation for March 2021 flood event Mayor Derek S. K. Kawakami has signed an emergency proclamation on March 10, 2021, for the County of Kaua‘i as a result of severe storms and flooding during the March 2021 rain event on March 9- 10, 2021. “Our emergency responders and partners continue to monitor weather conditions, as Kaua‘i and the rest of the state are under a Flash Flood Watch through Friday,” said Mayor Derek S. K. Kawakami. “The health and safety of our community is our top concern, and we continue to deploy resources as the need arises.” The disaster emergency relief period shall now continue until terminated 60 days after March 10, 2021, or by a separate proclamation – whichever comes first. The purpose of the emergency proclamation is to provide continued relief for disaster damages, losses, and suffering, and to protect the health, safety, and welfare of Kaua‘i residents and visitors. On Tuesday, Gov. David Ige signed an emergency declaration for the State of Hawai‘i, supporting the state’s efforts to provide quick and efficient relief of suffering, damage, and losses caused by flooding and other effects of the heavy rains.
