DAHILIG, MANAGING DIRECTOR News Release For Immediate Release: March 12, 2021 COUNTY OF KAUA‘I DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS TROY TANIGAWA, ACTING COUNTY ENGINEER (808) 241-4993 Sewage spill reported at Lihue Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP); Discharge into Kalapaki Bay LĪHUʻE – The public is advised of a wastewater spill at the Līhuʻe WWTP. The spill occurred around 12:45 p.m. as a result of heavy rains in the Līhuʻe area. County officials estimate that approximately 200 gallons of secondary treated wastewater spilled and flowed into a drainage channel that runs through the neighboring golf course and into Kalapaki Bay. Golf course officials have been notified. Signs are being posted at the river mouth at Kalapaki Bay. County officials are asking the public to avoid this area if possible. State of Hawaiʻi, Department of Health officials have been notified about the spill.
