Blessing held Friday for Solid Waste Division equipment
LĪHU‘E – On Friday, March 19, the Department of Public Works held a blessing at Vidinha
Stadium in Līhu‘e for a dozen new trucks for the Solid Waste Division.
The blessing was attended by solid waste workers from across the island, Public Works admin
staff, and Mayor Derek S. K. Kawakami.
“As we continue to invest in our hardworking men and women of the Solid Waste Division, we
need to remind ourselves that we are stewards of this new equipment,” said Mayor Kawakami. “These
tools belong to the people of Kaua‘i, and we will use them for the benefit of our community.”
In addition to the current equipment in stock that is used to service the facilities and
functions of the Solid Waste Division, this new equipment includes eight tractor trucks for all the refuse
stations on the island; two automated refuse trucks and a hooklift truck for the Kapa‘a baseyard; and a
pickup truck for the Kekahal Landfill.
