KŌKE‘E – First responders rescued a 53-year-old male hiker from Indiana on the Awa‘awapuhi
Trail in Kōke‘e on Monday, April 12.
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters were notified at approximately 5:50 p.m. of a hiker in distress on April 12. According
to a preliminary report, a hiker stated that a male hiker experienced a panic attack, possible
dehydration, and was unable to move.
Due to inclement weather, Rescue 3 personnel aboard Air 1 could not locate the hiker on the
trail. Instead, Rescue 3 was dropped off by the meadow near the Kōke‘e Lodge. Rescue 3 accompanied
Truck 7 personnel and hiked along the trail to locate the hiker. First responders found the hiker who was
alert and assisted him out of the trail.
Awaiting medical personnel assessed the hiker, who was later released.
First responders cleared the scene at approximately 9:35 p.m.
