Requirements to enter Kapule Building will change starting April 5; Finance
Department reminds customers of current SOPs for DMV and Real Property services
LĪHU‘E – The County of Kaua‘i Department of Finance will no longer require customers to
answer health- and travel-related questions when visiting the Līhu‘e Civic Center Kapule Building,
starting Monday, April 5.
Customers will still be required to undergo a temperature check before entering the building
and social distancing guidelines will be enforced. Masks will still be required for entry and service.
The department reminds customers of its current Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), as
follows.
Motor Vehicle Registration Division:
• All motor vehicle services are available by appointment only. To make an appointment, please
visit www.kauai.gov and click on “Get In Line Online.”
• The public is highly encouraged to pay vehicle registrations at
https://mvr.ehawaii.gov/renewals/kauai; at a DMV Kiosk located at Līhu‘e or Kapa‘a Safeway, or
at Ishihara Market in Waimea; by mail; or via the Drop Box located outside of the Kapule
Building.
Driver’s Licensing Division:
• All Driver’s Licensing services are by online-appointments only, except for Road Tests. To make
an appointment, please visit www.kauai.gov and click on “Get In Line Online.”
• Appointments for Road Tests must be made by calling (808) 241-4242.
• For Road Testing Health and Safety Rules, visit the DMV website at www.kauai.gov/DMV and
click on “Class 3 Road Test Vehicle Requirements.”
Real Property Assessments and Real Property Collections:
• Real Property Assessments and Real Property Collections are open for walk-in services with no
appointments necessary.
• The public is highly encouraged to pay property taxes online at www.kauai.gov/paypropertytax,
by mail, or via the Drop Box located outside of the Kapule Building.
The divisions of Motor Vehicles and Driver’s Licensing are open from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.,
Monday through Friday; except for State and Federal Holidays. Real Property Collections and Real
Property Assessment are open until 4 p.m.
No appointments are necessary for individuals ages 65 and older during Kupuna Hour, from 8 to
9 a.m. Kupuna are advised to be in the building by 8:45 a.m.
