Princeville man in stable condition after Hanalei Hill motorcycle crash
HANALEI – A 55-year-old Princeville man was traveling southbound up the Hanalei Hill toward
Princeville on Kūhiō Highway around 2:45 p.m. Saturday when he lost control of his 2001 Honda
motorcycle and crashed.
The highway, near mile marker 1 and the area of the landslide, was closed for approximately
three-and-a-half hours while the Kauaʿi Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit conducted an on-scene
investigation.
According to a preliminary report, the motorcycle struck the concrete barrier on the
southbound side of the roadway. The motorcyclist sustained multiple serious injuries and was
transported to Wilcox Memorial Center where he was admitted in serious condition. As of Sunday
morning, the man remains in the hospital and is in stable condition.
The cause of the crash is being investigated by the Traffic Safety Unit. KPD reminds all motorists
to exercise extra caution and vigilance when traveling past the landslide area. Please drive slowly and
remember to pay attention to the road.
