GOBLE, CHIEF (808) 241-4980 First responders rescue injured hiker Friday KŌKE‘ E– First responders recued an injured hiker in Kōke‘e on Friday. According to a preliminary report, first responders received a report at approximately 3 p.m. from the Kaua‘i Police Department Dispatch of a 30-year-old female visitor with an ankle injury on the Awaawapuhi Trail in Kōke‘e. Crews with the Waimea fire station, Rescue 3 aboard Air 1, and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the incident. At 3:45 p.m., Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 located a group of hikers and confirmed the injured hiker’s location. First responders located the hiker, secured her to Air 1, and transported her to awaiting firefighters and personnel with American Medical Response. Responding medics with AMR provided advanced life support and continued efforts on the hiker, who was transported to Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital. The scene was cleared at 4:50 p.m. ###
