Water service shutdown scheduled on portion of Hanapēpē Road,
Awawa Road and Puolo Road on July 27-28
HANAPĒPĒ - The Department of Water (DOW) announces an overnight water service shutdown on a portion of
Hanapēpē Road; from Moi Road to Awawa Road, a portion of Puolo Road; from Hanapēpē Road to Kaumuali‘i
Highway and includes approximately 12 customers located at the beginning of Awawa Road in Hanapēpē. Water
service will be turned off Tuesday, July 27 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, July 28, weather permitting.
The overnight water service shutdown is necessary in order to allow contractor, Goodfellow Bros. Inc to install
a main line and conduct water line work in the area as part of the DOW’s Hanapēpē – Ele’ele Water Systems
Improvements Project.
Additionally, partial one lane road closures on Awawa Road and on Hanapēpē Road; near the intersection of
Moi Road and Hanapēpē Road, will be in place. Access to Puolo Road from Hanapēpē Road and the Hanapēpē
Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic during the overnight work. Flagger personnel will be in place to assist.
Motorists are advised to use alternate routes when possible.
Customers located in the affected service area are advised to prepare for the service shutdown by taking the
following steps:
• Store water to meet your needs until water service can be restored.
• Notify neighbors, family and friends of the shutdown.
• Those with faulty water heaters should ensure that their water heater does not empty during the shutdown.
• Monitor water service announcements online via www.facebook.com/KauaiDOW.
