Officials reopen permitting for limited park pavilions
LĪHU‘E – The Department of Parks and Recreation announces it will reopen permitting for some
county park pavilions starting Monday, July 12.
The permitting process will be reopened in phases to allow a smooth transition for the public
and staff.
The department’s online permitting portal will open on Monday, July 12, for limited pavilion use
starting Friday, July 23. The online portal will be made live on July 12 through www.kauai.gov/parks, on
the “Permitting” tab.
Permits may also be acquired in person by appointment. To make an appointment, please call
241-4463 or email recpermits@kauai.gov.
Pavilion permits will be available for the following sites:
• ‘Anini Beach Park – All three pavilions;
• Hanamā‘ulu Beach Park pavilion;
• Lucy Wright Beach Park pavilion;
• Lydgate Beach Park – Large and small pavilions;
• Niumalu Beach Park pavilion;
• Po‘ipū Beach Park – Main pavilion; and
• Wailua Houselots Park pavilion.
Currently, permits can only be made a maximum of 6 months in advance of the event date.
At this time, inflatables and vehicle gate access will not be allowed. However, the next phase of
permitted pavilions is expected to open in August, including the option for amusement vendors who
wish to operate in county parks. Details will be announced when more information is available.
“As more residents become vaccinated and the county continues to move towards a full
reopening, we are pleased to start reinstating our recreational services to the public,” said Department
of Parks and Recreation Director Pat Porter. “We thank the community for their patience and
understanding while we made these difficult decisions over the past year. Health and safety will remain
our top priority as we open more facilities and services in the near future.”
All permit holders will be required to adhere to all emergency rules currently in place. The
County of Kaua‘i is currently in Tier 5, which allows a maximum of 75 people to gather at each pavilion.
