DAHILIG, MANAGING DIRECTOR News Release For Immediate Release: July 19, 2021 COUNTY OF KAUA‘I DEPARTMENT OF PLANNING KA‘ĀINA S. HULL, DIRECTOR (808) 241-4050 Waimea 400 Master Plan virtual community meeting set for July 28 WAIMEA – The third community meeting for the Waimea 400 Master Plan will be held online on Wednesday, July 28, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Registration is available at the project website, www.waimea400.com. The purpose of this meeting is to review the refined concepts for the Waimea 400 site based on feedback from community members and agency and resources partners. After the meeting, the Waimea Public Library will host another Talk Story event on Wednesday, Aug. 4, providing an opportunity for community members to share their thoughts and ideas in person. For more information, please contact Michelle Young of Waimea Public Library at (808) 338-6848. There will also be opportunity for the community members to provide feedback on the refined concepts on the project website at www.waimea400.com, following the virtual meeting on July 28. You may also contact the Planning Department at 241-4050 or by email at waimea400@gmail.com if you do not have access to the website. “We are eager to continue our work with the westside community, which is why I would also like to address a topic that has recently been brought to our attention,” said Planning Director Ka‘āina Hull. “Through news reports, we have been made aware of a possible wave pool proposal aimed for Waimea. While we have not been contacted by the developer about any wave pool proposal – in Waimea or anywhere else on Kaua‘i – we can say that through community outreach for the Waimea 400 property, it’s clear that a wave pool would not be appropriate for this site.” During the virtual community meeting held on June 17, three conceptual site plan alternatives for the Waimea 400 site were presented for community review and feedback. The conceptual plans were hosted on the project website at www.waimea400.com and at the Waimea Public Library for additional comment until July 9. Additionally, the Waimea Public Library held an in-person Talk Story event on June 23, where community members shared their vision for the Waimea 400 area and asked staff questions. Comments were compiled and additional meetings with agency and resource partners were conducted to refine the draft alternative concepts. If you need an auxiliary aid/service or other accommodation due to a disability, please contact the Planning Department Long Range Division at 241-4050 or waimea400@gmail.com as soon as possible.
