Wailua Wastewater Treatment Plant effluent exceedance in effect
WAILUA – The public is advised of a wastewater effluent exceedance that occurred on
July 13, 2021, at the Wailua Wastewater Treatment Plant. The measured Enterococci level has
exceeded the permitted limit.
“Beachgoers are advised that contact with the nearby ocean may cause illness,” said
Acting County Engineer Troy Tanigawa. “Wastewater officials are working with the Department
of Health to follow all health and safety guidelines, and signs will be posted in the affected
area.”
Testing will continue, and the public will be informed when the Wastewater Treatment
Plant is back in compliance.
Anyone with questions may contact the Department of Public Works at 241-4992.
