DAHILIG, MANAGING DIRECTOR News Release For Immediate Release: July 14, 2021 COUNTY OF KAUA‘I DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS TROY TANIGAWA, ACTING COUNTY ENGINEER (808) 241-4993 Wailua Wastewater Treatment Plant effluent exceedance in effect WAILUA – The public is advised of a wastewater effluent exceedance that occurred on July 13, 2021, at the Wailua Wastewater Treatment Plant. The measured Enterococci level has exceeded the permitted limit. “Beachgoers are advised that contact with the nearby ocean may cause illness,” said Acting County Engineer Troy Tanigawa. “Wastewater officials are working with the Department of Health to follow all health and safety guidelines, and signs will be posted in the affected area.” Testing will continue, and the public will be informed when the Wastewater Treatment Plant is back in compliance.
