An out-of-state vehicle permit allows a vehicle to be operated within Kaua‘i county until the out- of-state registration expires or for a maximum of one year from the date of arrival. State law defines the requirements for out-of-state vehicle permits under HRS 286-54. Any person in violation, if convicted, could face fines up to $1,000. For more information about obtaining an out-of-state vehicle permit, please visit the DMV website, www.kauai.gov/DMV, and click on “Out of State Transfers” under the Vehicle Services category. ###
