Mississippi man dies after motorcycle crash on Monday
WAILUA – Jacob Wilson, 25, of Magnolia, Mississippi, died in a single vehicle crash on Monday
afternoon in Wailua.
At approximately 4:15 p.m., Kapa‘a firefighters and Kauaʿi police were dispatched to a
motorcycle crash on Nonou Road.
According to a preliminary report, Wilson, who had recently moved to Kapaʿa, was operating a
2008 Kawasaki motorcycle and was traveling westbound on Nonou Road when he failed to negotiate a
right-hand curve in the roadway. He crossed over to the eastbound lane and struck a fence on the
eastbound shoulder.
Wilson was ejected from the motorcycle and sustained fatal injuries.
Upon arrival at the scene, first responders found a bystander performing CPR on Wilson who
was unresponsive with severe injuries to his head. Firefighters and medics continued CPR and advanced
life support, but the man could not be resuscitated.
Nonou Road was closed to all traffic in the area of the Eggerking Road intersection for
approximately two hours while the Kauaʿi Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit conducted an on-
scene investigation.
The cause of the crash continues to be investigated by the Traffic Safety Unit but a preliminary
report indicates that speed may have been factor.
The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet.
This is Kauaʿi’s first traffic fatality this year compared to six at this time last year.
