KPD to celebrate National Faith & Blue Weekend by participating in food drive
Kauaʿi police are joining the local faith community on Friday to celebrate National Faith & Blue
Weekend with an island wide food drive.
National Faith & Blue Weekend is an initiative that builds bridges and break down biases
through activities and outreach amongst law enforcement professionals and the communities they
serve.
The food drive will be held at three separate locations around the island – Calvary Chapel in
Līhuʿe (3-3100 Kūhiō Highway), Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalāheo (2-2370 Kaumualiʿi Highway) and
in the Waipouli Town Center parking lot (at the former location of Foodland).
Volunteers from a number of organizations and local churches will be on hand to help distribute
grocery bags of non-perishable food and dry goods on a first-come, first-served basis from 1 to 4 p.m. or
until supplies run out. The food will be handed out in a drive-thru format and will be available to
individuals and families in need.
“Our police department is lucky to have such a positive relationship with our community and to
not have to deal with some of the same issues that the rest of the country is faced with. Having said
that, I know that we can always do better, and we can always be more open and willing to connect with
the public. We thought that this event would be the perfect platform right now to do so, especially given
the challenges our community has faced with Covid and other hardships,” said Police Chief Todd G.
Raybuck. “A big mahalo to all of the individuals and organizations that made this food drive possible. I
also want to thank our community for your continued support.”
All proper safety precautions will be taken during the event. Please remember to wear a mask
while picking up the food items in your vehicle.
“This is just the second year beginning to implement Faith & Blue on Kauaʿi. It is our hope to see
the event grow each year and to have an even larger impact,” said Chaplain Gregory Poole. "This year’s
Faith & Blue demonstrates an important reminder that, on Kauaʿi, no one is alone. We all work together
to care for one another and each other. A caring and unified community is strong.”
