BLANE, CHIEF OF STAFF (808) 241-4900 Hawai‘i State DOH Kaua‘i District Health Office announces 154 new cases of COVID-19 on Dec. 31 LĪHU‘E – The Hawai‘i State Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office announced 154 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, Dec. 31. Today’s cases bring the number of active cases to 596, with six hospitalized, and 4,159 cumulative cases. Kaua‘i’s cumulative case count includes 4,092 confirmed locally, eight probable, and 59 positive cases diagnosed elsewhere, as they received their pre-travel test results after arriving on island. In observance of New Year’s Day, there will be no COVID-19 news release tomorrow, Jan. 1. Cases from the holiday will be included in Sunday’s case count. Due to the increase in cases, the Kaua‘i District Health Office has shifted to a simplified daily case update consisting of total new case counts only. More detailed information on new cases will continue to be available on the Hawai‘i State Department of Health’s COVID-19 data dashboard. DOH contact tracing: Due to the high volume of cases, it may take the Department of Health case investigators and contact tracers a few days to contact you after you’ve received a positive test.
