HomeMy WebLinkAbout1.454 COMPUTER SYSTEMS SUPPORT TECHNICIAN I 20221130PART I DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES COUNTY OF KAUAI 1.454 Class Specifications for the Class: COMPUTER SYSTEMS SUPPORT TECHNICIAN I SR-13, BU-03 Duties Summary: Assists with the setting up, operating, monitoring, and controlling of computers and peripheral equipment; responds to system operating errors and maintains operating records; and performs other related duties as required. Distinguishing Characteristics: This is the entry-level class in the Computer Systems Support Technician series. Positions in this class are assigned duties that are structured and performed with direction and assistance from others. Positions carry out work processes and operations by learning to apply and follow procedures, techniques, rules, and regulations. Examples of Duties: (The following are examples of duties and are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in this class. The omission of specific duties statements does not preclude management from assigning such duties if such duties are a logical assignment for the position). •Initializes the computer system in accordance with operating instructions; •Prepares the input/output units for operating runs; •Diagnoses causes for interruptions in processing and takes corrective appropriate action as necessary as defined in operating instructions; •Records abnormal indications of the system in record journals; •Operates control switches on control panels, storage devices, and printers; •Assists higher level personnel in support of operational tasks such as running back- up tapes or responding to trouble calls; •Provides assistance to departmental personnel on problems involving the use of system equipment and computer application programs; and •Performs other related duties as required. PART I COMPUTER SYSTEMS SUPPORT TECHNICIAN I 2 1.454 Knowledge of: Computer console operations; components of an electronic computer and their operation and functions; principles of computer programming; operating system concepts; job control language standards; program testing methods and procedures. Ability to: Set up and operate an electronic computer and peripheral equipment; monitor the central console and coordinate the functions of the computer system; initialize and test components of the computer; identify errors and take corrective action; read and understand program operating instruction sheets; work well with other personnel; lift boxes of computer paper, disk packs and computer equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. This is an amendment to the specification for the class COMPUTER SYSTEMS SUPPORT TECHNICIAN I, which was approved on July 10, 2002, and is to be substituted for that specification.
