HomeMy WebLinkAbout1.456 COMPUTER SYSTEMS SUPPORT TECHNICIAN III 20221130PART I DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES COUNTY OF KAUAI 1.456 Class Specifications for the Class: COMPUTER SYSTEMS SUPPORT TECHNICIAN III SR-17, BU-03 Duties Summary: Supervises and participates in the operation of electronic computer systems and peripheral equipment; schedules and processes multi-user applications; and performs other related duties as required. Distinguishing Characteristics: This class is responsible for supervising and participating in the operational aspects of data processing and coordinating the central computer system, which may include data input, data control or scheduling. It does not have responsibility for systems analysis or programming. Examples of Duties: (The following are examples of duties and are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in this class. The omission of specific duties statements does not preclude management from assigning such duties if such duties are a logical assignment for the position). • Supervises and participates in the operation of an electronic computer system in the processing of a variety of applications; • Monitors job scheduling and job processing; • Develops operator procedures; • Alters and assists in scheduling the computer system; • Directs changes to processing priorities; • Directs the manipulation of the various queues; • Reviews data processing utilization, workload, and scheduling to determine efficiency of operation; • Recommends revisions to operating schedules based on operating experience; • Recommends action to improve workflow and efficiency; PART I COMPUTER SYSTEMS SUPPORT TECHNICIAN III 2 1.456 Assists subordinates as needed; Supervises and participates in scheduled back-ups of data, programs, and procedures on computer hard drives; Prepares and maintains logs and reports; Assists in training of computer operators and other support personnel; Troubleshoots to resolve problems; Contacts vendors to resolve problems; Monitors and controls computer room environment; Operates off-line equipment; and Performs other related duties as required. Knowledge of: Principles and techniques of computer system operation; principles of electronic and electro-mechanical data processing production operation; methods and techniques of troubleshooting and data processing recovery; principles and practices of supervision; report writing; and data processing practices and procedures. Ability to: Plan, assign, and supervise the activities of a computer operation work unit; operate, monitor, and control an electronic computer system and peripheral equipment; evaluate error conditions and effect corrective action; recommend procedures for improved production operations and efficiency; develop training programs and implement training; equipment; lift boxes of computer paper, disk packs and computer equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. This is an amendment to the specification for the class COMPUTER SYSTEMS SUPPORT TECHNICIAN III, which was approved on July 10, 2002, and is to be substituted for that specification.
